LinkedIn Expands its Top-of-Feed News Banner to More Regions

Launched earlier this year in selected markets, LinkedIn’s news banner provides a rotating headline summary of trending news stories of the day, as chosen by LinkedIn’s editorial team. Tap on any headline and you’ll be taken to a listing of relevant articles and LinkedIn posts about that topic, so you can engage with other LinkedIn members about the news of the day. That, ideally, will get more LinkedIn users sharing their thoughts about key business news, helping them build their LinkedIn presence, while also driving more engagement in the app. And apparently, it is working, with LinkedIn bringing its news banner test to more regions.

How Elon Musk Is Using His Political Influence To Secure the Future of X

Make no mistake, Elon Musk’s X project is a failure, and was on a solidifying path to bankruptcy, before Elon “saved” the platform by utilizing the political clout that he gained through the app to set his broader “X Corp” body of projects up for ongoing success. Though the tactics that he’s used in doing so are highly questionable, and there’s still no guarantee that X will survive, long-term, as a general social media utility. And that’s before we get into his “everything app” expansion, but right now, X is indeed both solvent and safe due to a new injection of funding, as a result of Musk’s political wheeling and dealing.

OpenAI’s Reportedly Exploring its Own AI-Based Social Network

OpenAI is working on its own X-like social network, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. While the project is still in early stages, we’re told there’s an internal prototype focused on ChatGPT’s image generation that has a social feed. CEO Sam Altman has been privately asking outsiders for feedback about the project, our sources say. It’s unclear if OpenAI’s plan is to release the social network as a separate app or integrate it into ChatGPT, which became the most downloaded app globally last month. An OpenAI spokesperson didn’t respond in time for publication.

YouTube Expands ‘Hype’ Program, Provides Advice Ahead of Mid-Roll Ad Changes

YouTube’s expanding its Hype program, which aims to help lesser-known creators gain more exposure in the app, while it’s also shared some new advice on its updated process for mid-roll ad placements, which will come into effect next month. First off, on Hype, which enables viewers to allocate “hype points” to videos from emerging channels, essentially upvoting these clips in order to help them get more reach.

LinkedIn Gains Expanded MRC Accreditation for Video Ad Metrics

LinkedIn’s adding more assurance for video marketers via expanded Media Rating Council (MRC) accreditation for its video metrics, which will mean that more of LinkedIn’s data measurement systems have now been reviewed and approved by the industry body. The MRC’s accreditation is a voluntary process, which crosschecks measurement and reporting systems to ensure that they adhere to industry standards across several key areas relating to ethical operations, disclosure, and delivery.

TikTok Now Displays Reviews for Certain Location-Tagged Posts in the App

TikTok’s taking another step towards expanding its in-stream business listings, with the addition of business reviews on selected, location-tagged videos in the app. Some TikTok comment sections now also have a separate “Reviews” tab, which showcases user reviews for businesses at the tagged location. Some of these are for general locations and tourist attractions, while others are for specific businesses, with viewers able to upvote each review direct in-stream.
